Barangay Hernandez

Barangay Hernandez is a very small barangay in the municipality of San Jorge, located in the province of Samar, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Hernandez had a population of 118. This made it the 40th largest of 41 barangays in San Jorge by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Hernandez accounted for approximately 0.67% of the total population of San Jorge, which stood at 17,579 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Hernandez changed from 95 to 118, a shift of +24.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in San Jorge. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Hernandez as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Jorge is a municipality comprising 41 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Hernandez, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Samar, which contains 951 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Hernandez ranks 934th by 2020 population.
