Barangay Alangilan

Situated in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, Barangay Alangilan is one of 22 barangays that make up the municipality within Central Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Alangilan had a population of 4,197. This made it the 8th largest of 22 barangays in Santa Catalina by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Alangilan accounted for approximately 5.42% of the total population of Santa Catalina, which stood at 77,501 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,390 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 4,197 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -4.4%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Alangilan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Santa Catalina is a municipality comprising 22 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Alangilan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
