Barangay Panay

Barangay Panay is a small barangay in the municipality of Santa Marcela, located in the province of Apayao, in the CAR region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Panay had a population of 903. This made it the 8th largest of 13 barangays in Santa Marcela by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Panay accounted for approximately 6.78% of the total population of Santa Marcela, which stood at 13,317 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Panay moving from 969 residents to 903 residents, an intercensal change of -6.8%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Panay as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Santa Marcela is a municipality comprising 13 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Panay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
