Barangay Basug

Classified as a very small barangay, Barangay Basug is one of the administrative divisions of Santa in Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Basug had a population of 224. This made it the 23rd largest of 26 barangays in Santa by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Basug accounted for approximately 1.49% of the total population of Santa, which stood at 14,992 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Basug changed from 239 to 224, a shift of -6.3% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Santa. Barangay Basug is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Santa is a municipality comprising 26 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Basug, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Ilocos Sur, which contains 768 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Basug ranks 746th by 2020 population.
