Barangay Cawit forms part of Taal, a municipality in Batangas, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Cawit had a population of 2,489. This made it the 8th largest of 42 barangays in Taal by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Cawit accounted for approximately 4.05% of the total population of Taal, which stood at 61,460 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 2,150 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 2,489 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +15.8%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Cawit as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Taal is a municipality comprising 42 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Cawit, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
