Situated in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Barangay Sugbongcogon is one of 10 barangays that make up the municipality within Northern Mindanao.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Sugbongcogon had a population of 4,602. This made it the 7th largest of 10 barangays in Tagoloan by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Sugbongcogon accounted for approximately 5.73% of the total population of Tagoloan, which stood at 80,319 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,572 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 4,602 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +0.7%, consistent with a slowly expanding settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Sugbongcogon as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.
