Situated in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Barangay Macayepyep is one of 20 barangays that make up the municipality within Ilocos Region.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Macayepyep had a population of 1,054. This made it the 7th largest of 20 barangays in Banna by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Macayepyep accounted for approximately 5.46% of the total population of Banna, which stood at 19,297 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,180 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,054 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -10.7%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Macayepyep is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
