Barangay Compostela

Situated in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay, Barangay Compostela is one of 27 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Compostela had a population of 1,053. This made it the 13th largest of 27 barangays in Buug by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Compostela accounted for approximately 2.74% of the total population of Buug, which stood at 38,425 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Compostela moving from 1,025 residents to 1,053 residents, an intercensal change of +2.7%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Compostela as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Buug is a municipality comprising 27 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Compostela, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Sibugay, which contains 389 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Compostela ranks 252nd by 2020 population.
