Barangay Abong

Situated in Carles, Iloilo, Barangay Abong is one of 33 barangays that make up the municipality within Western Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Abong had a population of 2,957. This made it the 8th largest of 33 barangays in Carles by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Abong accounted for approximately 4.07% of the total population of Carles, which stood at 72,637 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Abong moving from 2,393 residents to 2,957 residents, an intercensal change of +23.6%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Abong as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Carles is a municipality comprising 33 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Abong, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Iloilo, which contains 1,901 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Abong ranks 92nd by 2020 population.
