Situated in Carles, Iloilo, Barangay Barangcalan is one of 33 barangays that make up the municipality within Western Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Barangcalan had a population of 1,557. This made it the 22nd largest of 33 barangays in Carles by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Barangcalan accounted for approximately 2.14% of the total population of Carles, which stood at 72,637 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Barangcalan moving from 1,484 residents to 1,557 residents, an intercensal change of +4.9%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Barangcalan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
