Barangay Liyang

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Liyang is one of the administrative divisions of City of Dapitan in Zamboanga Del Norte, Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Liyang had a population of 877. This made it the 42nd largest of 50 barangays in City of Dapitan by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Liyang accounted for approximately 1.03% of the total population of City of Dapitan, which stood at 85,202 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Liyang moving from 1,122 residents to 877 residents, an intercensal change of -21.8%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Liyang is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

City of Dapitan is a city comprising 50 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Liyang, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Del Norte, which contains 691 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Liyang ranks 440th by 2020 population. Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Liyang is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
