Barangay Opao

Barangay Opao forms part of City of Dapitan, a city in Zamboanga Del Norte, and is classified as a small barangay.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Opao had a population of 1,527. This made it the 24th largest of 50 barangays in City of Dapitan by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Opao accounted for approximately 1.79% of the total population of City of Dapitan, which stood at 85,202 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Opao moving from 1,510 residents to 1,527 residents, an intercensal change of +1.1%. The trajectory indicates a slowly expanding community. Barangay Opao is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

City of Dapitan is a city comprising 50 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Opao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Del Norte, which contains 691 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Opao ranks 229th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
