Barangay Balugo

Classified as a mid-sized barangay, Barangay Balugo is one of the administrative divisions of City of Dumaguete in Negros Oriental, Central Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Balugo had a population of 4,110. This made it the 16th largest of 30 barangays in City of Dumaguete by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Balugo accounted for approximately 3.06% of the total population of City of Dumaguete, which stood at 134,103 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Balugo moving from 3,452 residents to 4,110 residents, an intercensal change of +19.1%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Balugo is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

City of Dumaguete is a city comprising 30 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Balugo, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Oriental, which contains 557 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Balugo ranks 92nd by 2020 population. Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Balugo is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
