Barangay Bantayan

Situated in City of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Barangay Bantayan is one of 30 barangays that make up the city within Central Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bantayan had a population of 4,430. This made it the 15th largest of 30 barangays in City of Dumaguete by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Bantayan accounted for approximately 3.30% of the total population of City of Dumaguete, which stood at 134,103 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Bantayan moving from 5,042 residents to 4,430 residents, an intercensal change of -12.1%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Bantayan is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Dumaguete is a city comprising 30 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bantayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Oriental, which contains 557 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bantayan ranks 79th by 2020 population. Negros Oriental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Bantayan is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
