Barangay Candau-ay

Barangay Candau-ay is a large barangay in the City of Dumaguete, located in the province of Negros Oriental, in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Candau-ay had a population of 9,593. This made it the 3rd largest of 30 barangays in City of Dumaguete by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Candau-ay accounted for approximately 7.15% of the total population of City of Dumaguete, which stood at 134,103 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 7,509 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 9,593 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +27.8%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Candau-ay is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Dumaguete is a city comprising 30 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Candau-ay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Oriental, which contains 557 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Candau-ay ranks 8th by 2020 population. Negros Oriental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Candau-ay is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
