Barangay Azagra

Situated in City of Tanjay, Negros Oriental, Barangay Azagra is one of 24 barangays that make up the city within Central Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Azagra had a population of 5,193. This made it the 3rd largest of 24 barangays in City of Tanjay by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Azagra accounted for approximately 6.28% of the total population of City of Tanjay, which stood at 82,642 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 5,191 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 5,193 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of 0.0%, consistent with a slowly expanding settlement. Barangay Azagra is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Tanjay is a city comprising 24 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Azagra, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Barangay Azagra is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
