Barangay Balugo

Barangay Balugo is a small barangay in the municipality of Imelda, located in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, in the Zamboanga Peninsula region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Balugo had a population of 1,230. This made it the 8th largest of 18 barangays in Imelda by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Balugo accounted for approximately 4.73% of the total population of Imelda, which stood at 26,020 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Balugo moving from 1,262 residents to 1,230 residents, an intercensal change of -2.5%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Balugo is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Imelda is a municipality comprising 18 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Balugo, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
