Situated in Lopez, Quezon, Barangay Magallanes is one of 95 barangays that make up the municipality within CALABARZON.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Magallanes had a population of 1,336. This made it the 21st largest of 95 barangays in Lopez by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Magallanes accounted for approximately 1.41% of the total population of Lopez, which stood at 94,657 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Magallanes changed from 1,283 to 1,336, a shift of +4.1% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Lopez. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Magallanes as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Lopez is a municipality comprising 95 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Magallanes, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Quezon, which contains 1,242 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Magallanes ranks 468th by 2020 population.
