Situated in Mabini, Batangas, Barangay Anilao Proper is one of 34 barangays that make up the municipality within CALABARZON.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Anilao Proper had a population of 769. This made it the 32nd largest of 34 barangays in Mabini by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Anilao Proper accounted for approximately 1.51% of the total population of Mabini, which stood at 50,858 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 650 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 769 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +18.3%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Anilao Proper as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Mabini is a municipality comprising 34 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Anilao Proper, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
