Barangay Bonga

Barangay Bonga is a small barangay in the municipality of Maria, located in the province of Siquijor, in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bonga had a population of 555. This made it the 13th largest of 22 barangays in Maria by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bonga accounted for approximately 3.86% of the total population of Maria, which stood at 14,385 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Bonga moving from 506 residents to 555 residents, an intercensal change of +9.7%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Bonga is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Maria is a municipality comprising 22 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bonga, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Siquijor, which contains 134 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bonga ranks 82nd by 2020 population.
