Barangay Alegria

Classified as a mid-sized barangay, Barangay Alegria is one of the administrative divisions of Murcia in Negros Occidental, Western Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Alegria had a population of 3,793. This made it the 10th largest of 23 barangays in Murcia by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Alegria accounted for approximately 4.27% of the total population of Murcia, which stood at 88,868 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Alegria changed from 3,584 to 3,793, a shift of +5.8% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Murcia. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Alegria as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Murcia is a municipality comprising 23 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Alegria, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Occidental, which contains 662 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Alegria ranks 263rd by 2020 population. Barangay Alegria is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
