Barangay Blumentritt

Barangay Blumentritt is a large barangay in the municipality of Murcia, located in the province of Negros Occidental, in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Blumentritt had a population of 12,304. This made it the 2nd largest of 23 barangays in Murcia by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Blumentritt accounted for approximately 13.85% of the total population of Murcia, which stood at 88,868 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 12,141 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 12,304 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +1.3%, consistent with a slowly expanding settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Blumentritt as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Murcia is a municipality comprising 23 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Blumentritt, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Occidental, which contains 662 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Blumentritt ranks 22nd by 2020 population. Negros Occidental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Blumentritt is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
