Barangay Jalas

Barangay Jalas is a small barangay in the municipality of New Washington, located in the province of Aklan, in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Jalas had a population of 1,648. This made it the 14th largest of 16 barangays in New Washington by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Jalas accounted for approximately 3.44% of the total population of New Washington, which stood at 47,955 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Jalas moving from 1,518 residents to 1,648 residents, an intercensal change of +8.6%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Jalas is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

New Washington is a municipality comprising 16 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Jalas, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
