Situated in Pilar, Sorsogon, Barangay Esperanza is one of 49 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

This made it the 22nd largest of 49 barangays in Pilar by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Esperanza accounted for approximately 2.23% of the total population of Pilar, which stood at 75,793 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,687 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,687 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of 0.0%, consistent with a broadly stable settlement. Barangay Esperanza is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
