Barangay South Balioag

Barangay South Balioag is a small barangay in the municipality of Pilar, located in the province of Abra, in the CAR region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay South Balioag had a population of 510. This made it the 9th largest of 19 barangays in Pilar by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay South Balioag accounted for approximately 5.03% of the total population of Pilar, which stood at 10,146 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay South Balioag changed from 429 to 510, a shift of +18.9% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Pilar. Barangay South Balioag is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Pilar is a municipality comprising 19 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay South Balioag, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Abra, which contains 303 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay South Balioag ranks 206th by 2020 population.
