Barangay Tungay

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Tungay is one of the administrative divisions of Santa Barbara in Iloilo, Western Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Tungay had a population of 864. This made it the 29th largest of 60 barangays in Santa Barbara by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Tungay accounted for approximately 1.28% of the total population of Santa Barbara, which stood at 67,630 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 723 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 864 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +19.5%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Tungay is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Santa Barbara is a municipality comprising 60 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Tungay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Iloilo, which contains 1,901 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Tungay ranks 888th by 2020 population. Iloilo is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Tungay is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
