Barangay Obat

Barangay Obat forms part of Santa Catalina, a municipality in Negros Oriental, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Obat had a population of 2,287. This made it the 14th largest of 22 barangays in Santa Catalina by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Obat accounted for approximately 2.95% of the total population of Santa Catalina, which stood at 77,501 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Obat changed from 2,524 to 2,287, a shift of -9.4% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Santa Catalina. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Obat as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Santa Catalina is a municipality comprising 22 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Obat, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Oriental, which contains 557 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Obat ranks 224th by 2020 population.
