Barangay Nueva Estrella

Barangay Nueva Estrella forms part of Socorro, a municipality in Surigao Del Norte, and is classified as a small barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Nueva Estrella had a population of 1,876. This made it the 5th largest of 14 barangays in Socorro by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Nueva Estrella accounted for approximately 7.23% of the total population of Socorro, which stood at 25,942 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Nueva Estrella changed from 1,854 to 1,876, a shift of +1.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with slowly expanding populations in Socorro. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Nueva Estrella as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Socorro is a municipality comprising 14 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Nueva Estrella, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
