Barangay Rizal (Pob.)

Barangay Rizal (Pob.) is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Socorro, located in the province of Surigao Del Norte, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Rizal (Pob.) had a population of 4,910. This made it the 1st largest of 14 barangays in Socorro by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Rizal (Pob.) accounted for approximately 18.93% of the total population of Socorro, which stood at 25,942 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Rizal (Pob.) changed from 5,243 to 4,910, a shift of -6.4% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Socorro. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Rizal (Pob.) as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Socorro is a municipality comprising 14 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Rizal (Pob.), including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Norte, which contains 335 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Rizal (Pob.) ranks 13th by 2020 population. Surigao Del Norte is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Rizal (Pob.) is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
