Barangay Libertad

Situated in Sominot, Zamboanga Del Sur, Barangay Libertad is one of 18 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Libertad had a population of 640. This made it the 13th largest of 18 barangays in Sominot by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Libertad accounted for approximately 3.36% of the total population of Sominot, which stood at 19,061 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 596 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 640 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +7.4%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Libertad as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Sominot is a municipality comprising 18 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Libertad, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
