Barangay Tungawan

Classified as a small barangay, Barangay Tungawan is one of the administrative divisions of Sominot in Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga Peninsula, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Tungawan had a population of 1,840. This made it the 2nd largest of 18 barangays in Sominot by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Tungawan accounted for approximately 9.65% of the total population of Sominot, which stood at 19,061 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Tungawan moving from 1,798 residents to 1,840 residents, an intercensal change of +2.3%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Tungawan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
