Situated in Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Sur, Barangay Bag-ong Kauswagan is one of 31 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bag-ong Kauswagan had a population of 711. This made it the 23rd largest of 31 barangays in Tambulig by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bag-ong Kauswagan accounted for approximately 1.90% of the total population of Tambulig, which stood at 37,480 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 672 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 711 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +5.8%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Bag-ong Kauswagan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
