Situated in Tapaz, Capiz, Barangay San Jose is one of 58 barangays that make up the municipality within Western Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay San Jose had a population of 742. This made it the 36th largest of 58 barangays in Tapaz by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Jose accounted for approximately 1.36% of the total population of Tapaz, which stood at 54,423 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 692 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 742 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +7.2%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay San Jose is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Tapaz is a municipality comprising 58 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Jose, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Capiz, which contains 473 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay San Jose ranks 399th by 2020 population.
