Barangay Macabari

Barangay Macabari is a small barangay in the municipality of Barcelona, located in the province of Sorsogon, in the Bicol Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Macabari had a population of 1,407. This made it the 2nd largest of 25 barangays in Barcelona by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Macabari accounted for approximately 6.70% of the total population of Barcelona, which stood at 20,987 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Macabari moving from 1,480 residents to 1,407 residents, an intercensal change of -4.9%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Macabari is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Barcelona is a municipality comprising 25 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Macabari, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Sorsogon, which contains 541 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Macabari ranks 211th by 2020 population.
