Situated in Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental, Barangay Demetrio Fernan is one of 28 barangays that make up the municipality within Northern Mindanao.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Demetrio Fernan had a population of 1,225. This made it the 15th largest of 28 barangays in Bonifacio by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Demetrio Fernan accounted for approximately 3.54% of the total population of Bonifacio, which stood at 34,558 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,099 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,225 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +11.5%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Demetrio Fernan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
