Barangay Aras-Asan

Barangay Aras-Asan forms part of Cagwait, a municipality in Surigao Del Sur, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Aras-Asan had a population of 4,659. This made it the 1st largest of 11 barangays in Cagwait by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Aras-Asan accounted for approximately 21.42% of the total population of Cagwait, which stood at 21,747 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,595 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 4,659 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +1.4%, consistent with a slowly expanding settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Aras-Asan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Cagwait is a municipality comprising 11 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Aras-Asan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Sur, which contains 309 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Aras-Asan ranks 22nd by 2020 population. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
