Barangay Mat-e

Barangay Mat-e is a small barangay in the municipality of Cagwait, located in the province of Surigao Del Sur, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Mat-e had a population of 644. This made it the 10th largest of 11 barangays in Cagwait by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Mat-e accounted for approximately 2.96% of the total population of Cagwait, which stood at 21,747 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Mat-e moving from 648 residents to 644 residents, an intercensal change of -0.6%. The trajectory indicates a broadly stable community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Mat-e as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
