Barangay Tarong forms part of Carles, a municipality in Iloilo, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Tarong had a population of 2,550. This made it the 11th largest of 33 barangays in Carles by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Tarong accounted for approximately 3.51% of the total population of Carles, which stood at 72,637 in the same census year.
