Barangay Bugay

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Bugay is one of the administrative divisions of City of Bayawan in Negros Oriental, Central Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bugay had a population of 5,607. This made it the 9th largest of 28 barangays in City of Bayawan by population, placing it in the upper half of the city. Residents of Barangay Bugay accounted for approximately 4.57% of the total population of City of Bayawan, which stood at 122,747 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bugay changed from 5,048 to 5,607, a shift of +11.1% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in City of Bayawan. Barangay Bugay is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Bayawan is a city comprising 28 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bugay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Oriental, which contains 557 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bugay ranks 44th by 2020 population. Negros Oriental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Bugay is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
