Barangay Libacao

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Libacao is one of the administrative divisions of City of Himamaylan in Negros Occidental, Western Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Libacao had a population of 5,203. This made it the 12th largest of 19 barangays in City of Himamaylan by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Libacao accounted for approximately 4.48% of the total population of City of Himamaylan, which stood at 116,240 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,924 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 5,203 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +5.7%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Libacao as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Himamaylan is a city comprising 19 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Libacao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Occidental, which contains 662 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Libacao ranks 178th by 2020 population. Negros Occidental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Libacao is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
