Barangay Bungro forms part of Magsingal, a municipality in Ilocos Sur, and is classified as a small barangay.

This made it the 3rd largest of 30 barangays in Magsingal by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bungro changed from 1,466 to 1,587, a shift of +8.3% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Magsingal. Barangay Bungro is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Magsingal is a municipality comprising 30 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bungro, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
