Barangay Caratagan

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Caratagan is one of the administrative divisions of Pio Duran in Albay, Bicol Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Caratagan had a population of 5,548. This made it the 1st largest of 33 barangays in Pio Duran by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Caratagan accounted for approximately 11.31% of the total population of Pio Duran, which stood at 49,070 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,536 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 5,548 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +22.3%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Caratagan is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Pio Duran is a municipality comprising 33 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Caratagan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Albay, which contains 720 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Caratagan ranks 22nd by 2020 population. Albay is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.
