Barangay Malapay

Situated in Pio Duran, Albay, Barangay Malapay is one of 33 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Malapay had a population of 1,124. This made it the 18th largest of 33 barangays in Pio Duran by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Malapay accounted for approximately 2.29% of the total population of Pio Duran, which stood at 49,070 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,087 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,124 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +3.4%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Malapay is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Pio Duran is a municipality comprising 33 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Malapay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
