Barangay Darao

Situated in San Juan, Ilocos Sur, Barangay Darao is one of 32 barangays that make up the municipality within Ilocos Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Darao had a population of 430. This made it the 29th largest of 32 barangays in San Juan by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Darao accounted for approximately 1.61% of the total population of San Juan, which stood at 26,674 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 417 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 430 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +3.1%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Darao as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Juan is a municipality comprising 32 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Darao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
