Barangay Maya-maya

Situated in Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Sur, Barangay Maya-maya is one of 31 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Maya-maya had a population of 300. This made it the 31st largest of 31 barangays in Tambulig by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Maya-maya accounted for approximately 0.80% of the total population of Tambulig, which stood at 37,480 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Maya-maya changed from 331 to 300, a shift of -9.4% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Tambulig. Barangay Maya-maya is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Tambulig is a municipality comprising 31 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Maya-maya, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Del Sur, which contains 779 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Maya-maya ranks 675th by 2020 population. Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Maya-maya is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
