Situated in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Barangay Cabagnaan is one of 13 barangays that make up the municipality within Western Visayas.

This made it the 6th largest of 13 barangays in La Castellana by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Cabagnaan accounted for approximately 5.49% of the total population of La Castellana, which stood at 79,492 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Cabagnaan changed from 3,716 to 4,365, a shift of +17.5% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in La Castellana. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Cabagnaan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
