Barangay Banaba

Barangay Banaba forms part of San Mateo, a municipality in Rizal, and is classified as a very large barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Banaba had a population of 27,910. This made it the 3rd largest of 15 barangays in San Mateo by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Banaba accounted for approximately 10.21% of the total population of San Mateo, which stood at 273,306 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Banaba moving from 24,950 residents to 27,910 residents, an intercensal change of +11.9%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Banaba as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

San Mateo is a municipality comprising 15 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Banaba, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Rizal, which contains 189 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Banaba ranks 34th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
