Barangay Bantayan

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Bantayan is one of the administrative divisions of San Roque in Northern Samar, Eastern Visayas, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bantayan had a population of 5,200. This made it the 1st largest of 16 barangays in San Roque by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bantayan accounted for approximately 17.40% of the total population of San Roque, which stood at 29,882 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bantayan changed from 5,238 to 5,200, a shift of -0.7% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with broadly stable populations in San Roque. Barangay Bantayan is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

San Roque is a municipality comprising 16 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bantayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Northern Samar, which contains 569 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bantayan ranks 4th by 2020 population. Northern Samar is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

The barangay's legislative and executive affairs are handled by a Punong Barangay and the Sangguniang Barangay, elected nationwide during the Barangay and SK Elections. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
