Barangay Upper Mainit

Barangay Upper Mainit forms part of Malungon, a municipality in Sarangani, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Upper Mainit had a population of 3,817. This made it the 8th largest of 31 barangays in Malungon by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Upper Mainit accounted for approximately 3.62% of the total population of Malungon, which stood at 105,465 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,291 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 3,817 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -11.0%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Upper Mainit is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Malungon is a municipality comprising 31 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Upper Mainit, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Sarangani, which contains 141 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Upper Mainit ranks 55th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
